Egis and Gulf Consult win contract for major project in Kuwait

Strategic Partnership
  • Explore the collaboration between Egis and Gulf Consult as they secure a significant contract for a major project in Kuwait, highlighting the strength of their combined expertise and capabilities.

Egis and Gulf Consult are part of a consortium that has been contracted to help in the reconstruction and revitalization of the Souk Al-Mubarakiya in Kuwait City.

The project will be to fully revamp the historic marketplace, which has been at the center of everyday life in Kuwait City for around 120 years. The souk suffered extensive damages from a major fire in 2022, which destroyed 20 stalls, and was also damaged during the 1990 Iraq invasion of Kuwait.

The revitalization initiative is being led by the Kuwait Finance House (KFH), a leading Kuwaiti bank, with construction being carried out by Alghanim and consultancy services delivered by Egis and Gulf Consult.

“We are delighted to celebrate the launch of the reconstruction project for the area damaged in the Al Mubarakiya fire. This follows the successful completion and approval of the design phase by the relevant advisory team dedicated to addressing the effects of the incident,” said KFH Chair Hamad Abdulmohsen Al Marzouq.

Egis, a global consulting and construction engineering firm headquartered in France, has been contracted to rebuild 17 buildings and is tasked with leading an extensive upgrade of the infrastructure network in the surrounding area. The firm is reportedly working with architecture and heritage specialists in the predesign and design project management phases.

“Egis brings a long history of technical expertise and project management experience to the Souk Al-Mubarakiya development project,” said Khaled El Mir, Egis country managing director for Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.

“We are committed to collaborating closely with all stakeholders to deliver this significant project to the highest standards, ensuring the revitalized Souk becomes a cherished landmark for generations to come.”

This is the second major project undertaken by Egis in Kuwait in as many years. Last summer, the firm was chosen to provide project management consultancy services for the construction of the new Kuwait Airways Tower project, a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose tower to be built in Qibla.

Established in 1967, Gulf Consult is one of the oldest engineering and architectural consultancies in Kuwait. The firm, which is currently also working on the upgrade of the College of Science (part of Sabah Al-Salem University City), operates internationally, with 950+ staff in 30+ countries.

Though modern Kuwait boasts a wide array of high-end malls and markets for shopping and dining, the traditional Souk Al-Mubarakiya remains a relevant hub for people of all ages, fostering cultural exchanges and vibrant interactions between locals and tourists.
